Some people say things in passing, never expecting anyone to take them seriously. But in the case of our mate Bob, when he declared, Just bury me in a cardboard box, his family did exactly that. And let’s just say, Bob’s final send-off was anything but ordinary.

Bob – The No-Nonsense, Straight-Talking Legend

Bob wasn’t one for tradition. He didn’t believe in unnecessary spending, and he certainly didn’t see the point in an expensive casket.

Why spend thousands on a box that goes in the ground? Just chuck me in a cardboard one and call it a day, he’d say over Sunday lunch, to the eye-rolls of his family.

Well, Bob, challenge accepted.

A Funeral That Was So Bob

When the time came, Bob’s family honoured his wish, right down to the cardboard coffin. But they didn’t stop there. They made it a proper Bob-style affair:

His grandkids decorated the coffin with doodles, jokes, and a few stick figures that may or may not have been Bob holding a beer.

His best mates wrote farewell messages, some of which were not safe for church.

And, in true Bob fashion, the whole thing ended with a backyard BBQ instead of a formal wake.

Because if Bob had a motto, it was No fuss, no nonsense, just good company and a cold one.

The Rise of the Eco-Friendly Farewell

Jokes aside, cardboard coffins (e.g. Daisybox) are no longer just for people like Bob. More Australians are choosing eco-friendly funeral options that are simple, sustainable, and affordable.

And let’s be real, why spend a fortune on a casket when you could put that money towards a celebration of life instead?
